Haile Mariam Felleke immigrated to the United States from Ethiopia in the 1970s, and he received his college degree from Boston State College in Boston, Massachusetts. He placed great value on the importance of education and dedicated his life to sharing his love for education with his children, family, friends, and community. All three of his children – Yodi, Aida, and Belachew – are proud alumni of Sam Houston High School.

Haile passed away in 2008, but his joyful spirit, dedicated work ethic, and commitment to education remain strong. Haile's family wishes to honor his memory by investing in your continued academic pursuits and future success.

The goal of this $1,000 scholarship is to support one Sam Houston High School student who has demonstrated academic and extracurricular success, who can demonstrate financial need, and who wishes to pursue a higher education at a college or university. Each student’s financial need, academic success, extracurricular involvement, and leadership roles will be considered. Applicants must be in their senior year at Sam Houston High School.

The SHHS Alumni Association began distributing this $1,000 scholarship in 2021, funded annually by Haile’s children.
We are honored to award this scholarship and continue their family’s legacy.
