Long Tall Texan Award

(awarded annually by SHHS)

Presented at the SHHS graduation ceremony each spring, this award goes to an alumnus who has positively impacted the SHHS community. Thank you for showing future generations of Texans what it means to remember where you came from and give back. We are forever grateful for your SHHS spirit and pride. Long-Haul Texan Award

(established 2019 and awarded annually by SHHS Alumni Association)

This is our own internal award – an award established by and for our fellow alumni to honor their commitment and service to our alma mater. Those who volunteered with the organization throughout the years, and have continued to contribute to the growth of the association since its formalization, have really been in it for the long-haul. We know we couldn’t do all we’re doing to help the Sam Houston community without all their efforts.

To our inaugural Long Haul Texans:
“The SHHS Alumni Association has grown leaps and bounds since its formation as a nonprofit organization in 2013, but we all know that the alumni of Sam Houston High School have been giving back and doing good for a lot longer. Those who served on the alumni board between 1998-2013 and have continued to contribute to the growth of the association since its formalization, well, you are really in it for the long-haul. We know we couldn’t do all we’re doing to help the Sam Houston community if you hadn’t helped lay the groundwork for the organization as it exists today.”

The event was held at the beautiful Shady Valley Country Club in Arlington, TX, September 11, 2019.
